Description
English: Illustration of the lower jaw of a spade-toothed whale or Mesoplodon traversii, found on Pitt Island in 1872. It is labelled in this drawing as being from a Dolichodon layardii, which is now known as the strap-toothed whale or Mesoplodon layardii. The inscription at bottom left reads "J.B. del. et lith.", which means "Drawn and lithographically printed by J.B." Cropped from Plate III in Hector, James, 1873, "On the whales and dolphins of the New Zealand seas".
