Ágnes Kunhalmi (born October 31, 1982, in Kiskunmajsa) is a Hungarian politician. Since 2014, she has been a member of parliament for the Hungarian Socialist Party[1] (MSZP), representing Budapest's 18th district as an individual MP. From 2020 to 2024, she served as co-president of the MSZP and is the party's education policy expert. Between 2014 and 2018, she was the president of the MSZP in Budapest.

Ágnes Kunhalmi was born on October 31, 1982, in Kiskunmajsa. After completing elementary school, she graduated from Mihály Vörösmarty High School in Budapest. She earned her university degrees at the University of Szeged, Faculty of Humanities, in communication, and at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, in political science.

From 2003 to 2004, she worked at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, then until 2006 at the Social Policy Department of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office. Between 2006 and 2010, she was a municipal representative in Budapest’s 2nd district. From 2010 to 2014, she served as an external member of the Education Committee of the Budapest Municipal Government.

In 2014, she won a parliamentary seat on the national list of the MSZP and its allies. In 2018 and 2022, she was elected as the individual MP for Budapest’s 18th district by the district’s residents. Since 2014, she has continuously served as vice-chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture, which also handles education policy issues. For her, the education system—from preschool to university—is the most important political area. She believes it shapes a society’s quality of life for decades and is the most effective tool to fight social inequalities.

From 2010 to 2014, she was a member of the MSZP’s National Presidency. Between 2014 and 2018, she was the Budapest president of the MSZP, and in 2018, she was elected president of the MSZP’s National Committee. From September 19, 2020, until 2024, she served as co-president of the MSZP.
