2007 enlargement of the European Union
Appearance
The 2007 enlargement of the European Union joined Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union. It happened on 1 January 2007. The Treaty of Accession was signed on April 25, 2005 at Luxembourg, Neumünster Abbey. It was the seventh time the Union accepted new members.
Membership
[change | change source]Since 1989, Bulgaria and Romania wanted to be a part of the European Union (EU)[1] and put forward to become members in 1995.[2]
During the 2000s, Bulgaria and Romania made changes, such as improving their democratic system, human rights acts, freedom of speech acts, economy and laws.
