1600 (MDC) was a century leap year starting on Saturday in the Gregorian calendar and a leap year starting on Tuesday in the Julian calendar. It was the 1600th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 600th year of the 2nd millennium, the 100th and last year of the 16th century, and the first year of the 1600s. The Gregorian calendar was 10 days ahead of the Julian calendar as of the start of the year. The Julian calendar remained in localized use until 1923.
