Buydens married actor Kirk Douglas in 1954. They had two children.

Both Kirk Douglas and Buydens were behind the establishment of "Harry's Haven", an Alzheimer's disease unit at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Home in Woodland Hills. It is named after Kirk Douglas's father. The couple was known for their effort to rebuild playgrounds in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Buydens died at her home in Beverly Hills, California on 29 April 2021, one week after her 102nd birthday.[4]
