Arcachon (Arcaishon in Gascon) is a commune in the Gironde department in southwestern France, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
It is a popular beach on the Atlantic coast 55 kilometres (34 mi) southwest of Bordeaux in the Landes forest.
Geography
[change | change source]The commune of Arcachon has an area of 7.6 km2 (2.9 sq mi),[2] and its average altitude is 23 m (75 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 10 m (33 ft).[3]
The commune has to the south the La Teste de Buch commune and to the north the Arcachon Bay (French: Bassin d'Arcachon), a bay of the Atlantic Ocean on the southwest coast of France.
Climate
[change | change source]The climate of Arcachon is Marine West Coast Climate (Köppen climate classification: Cfb), with mild winters and warm summers.
Population
[change | change source]The inhabitants of Arcachon are known, in French, as Arcachonnais (women: Arcachonnaises).[4]
With a population of 10,370,[5] Arcachon has a population density of 1,372 inhabitants/km2.
