Ashraf Ali Thanvi was a scholar of the Deobandi movement who was one of the central figures of religious life in South Asia and still continues to be highly influential.[2] He has written many works such as Amal e-Qurani which is a famous book which features magic spells and Qur'an-based spells such as one to cause separation and dislike for two people.[3] He is a graduate of Darul Uloom Deoband, which was where he studied the Hanafi madhab and Sufism. This ended up leading him to become one of the top scholars of the Deobandi movement.[4] After his studies at Deoband, he moved to Kanpur, then Thana Bhawan which was where he died.
