In 1613, the Ottoman Grand Viziar Nasuh Pasha, who was the second most powerful man in the Ottoman Empire at the time, organised a campaign against the Shingal region. With tens of thousands of Ottoman soldiers and supported by Kurdish princes, the Grand Vizier advanced before the foothills of the Shingal Mountains and besieged the Êzîden.[4]
