Bert van der Helm

Bert van der Helm (born 1948 in Zoeterwoude) is a former Dutch table tennis player and coach.
Career

[change | change source]Van der Helm competed 189 times for the Dutch national team, competing at five European Championships and five World Championships.[1]
Van der Helm became 25 times national champion.[1][2]
- 12 times individual champion (1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1979 1980)
- 8 times men’s doubles with Gerard Bakker Sr (1966 and 1970), with Nico van Slobbe (1972, 1974 en 1978), with Anton-Will van Zoelen (1977), with Han Gootzen (1980) and with René Hijne (1982).
- 6 times mixed doubles including with his wife Ellen Kort (1966, 1967 and 1969), with Aukje Wynia (1970), with Mieke Arntz (1977) and with Ine Willems (1980)
Coach
[change | change source]Van der Helm became table tennis coach. During the 1980s he was head coach of the men’s national team and have been criticized by players.[3] In 1994 he refused to become head coach of the Dutch national team.[4]
