The COVID-19 pandemic began in Norway on 26 February 2020, with cases increasing during the month of March. Physical distancing actions were introduced on 12 March.
Cases
[change | change source]The first death caused by COVID-19 was documented on 26 February 2020. Most confirmed cases that were traced to outside Norway were Norwegian tourists returning from Austria[2] and Italy.
Testing
[change | change source]As of 13 May 2020,[update] Norway had performed 208,874 tests and reported 8,168 confirmed cases and 229 deaths.[1] One of the major reasons why the mortality rate was lower than in other European countries (such as Italy, Spain, the UK) was the high number of tests performed in Norway.[3]
