The Gönc District is a beautiful area in northeast Hungary, part of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Its main town, Gönc, sits near the Slovak border, making it the northernmost district in Hungary.
About 15,000 people live here, spread across 2 towns and 30 villages. Most are Hungarian, with small groups Slovaks, and Rusyns adding to the mix. In 2022, many were Catholic, Greek Catholic or Reformed.
