Career
[change | change source]Before playing in the NHL, Caufield played parts of 2 seasons with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and 2 years with the Wisconsin Badgers of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). With the USNTDP, Caufield set the all-time record for the most goals scored in a season with 72 goals. He was drafted 15th overall overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.[4] On March 27, 2021, Caufield signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Canadiens.[5]
On April 26, Caufield made his NHL debut in a 2-1 win against the Calgary Flames.[6] May 1, he scored his first NHL goal in a 3-2 overtime win against the Ottawa Senators.[7] In March 2022, Caufield was named as the NHL Rookie of the Month, leading all rookies with 7 goals and 15 points.[8]
On June 5, 2023, Caufield signed an eight-year, $62.8 million extension to stay with the Canadiens.[9]
