Delano Eugene Lewis (November 12, 1938 – August 2, 2023)[1][2] was an American attorney, businessman, and diplomat. He was the United States Ambassador to South Africa from 2000 to 2001 during the Bill Clinton and George W. Bush presidencies. He had roles at the Peace Corps and National Public Radio. He was the father of actor Phill Lewis.

Lewis was born in Arkansas City, Kansas.[2][3] Lewis went to Sumner High School, in Kansas City, Kansas, graduating in 1956.[4] He graduated form the University of Kansas in 1960.[5]

Lewis died on August 2, 2023 under hospice care in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the age of 84.[6][7]
