Edward Kirk Herrmann (July 21, 1943 – December 31, 2014) was an American actor of movies and television, television director, narrator, and screenwriter. He won a Tony Award in 1976 and an Emmy Award in 1999.
Herrman was born in Washington, D.C.. He was raised in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He studied at Bucknell University and at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
His career began in 1971. He was known for playing Franklin D. Roosevelt on several movies and television shows. He played President Roosevelt in Annie. He was also known for his role as Richard Gilmore on the television series Gilmore Girls.
He also narrated several shows on PBS, Nova, and the History Channel. His last role before his death in 2014, was as a narrator for a television commercial in 2013 Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street.
Hermann died on December 31, 2014 of brain cancer, at the age of 71 in New York City.[1]
