Fairbury is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. Fairbury has a population of 3,942.
A bunch of Fairbury's history is related to railroads, it was created on a planned railway, and grew as a shipping place. For almost 80 years, it was the base of the Western Division of the Rock Island Railroad.
History
[change | change source]In 1868, a freighter from Kentucky established a log factory on the edge of the Little Blue River. Some time after that, Woodford G. McDowell from Fairbury, Illinois, came to Nebraska to establish a town on the way between the St. Joseph and Denver City railroad.
