Fallen is the debut studio album by the American rock band Evanescence. It was released on March 4, 2003 by Wind-up Records.[5] Evanescence co-founders Amy Lee and Ben Moody began writing and recording songs in 1994. After releasing two EPs and a demo CD, they signed to Wind-up in January 2001. Some of the songs on Fallen are from Lee and Moody's early independent records. Fallen was recorded between August and December 2002 in several studios in California, including Conway Recording Studios. It is Evanescence's only album to feature Moody, as he left the band in October 2003.
Fallen has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide, including 10 million in the United States. It debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 with 141,000 copies sold in its first week, peaking at number three in June 2003. The album was at the top of the charts in more than ten countries. It was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in November 2022.
