Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis is a bestselling 2016 memoir by J. D. Vance about his early life in the Appalachian region, his family and the social and economic problems of his hometown of Middletown, Ohio.
The book reached the top of The New York Times Best Seller list in August 2016[1] and January 2017.[2]
In 2020 it was made into a movie directed by Ron Howard and starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams. The movie was received with mixed reviews.[3]
