Hugo Alejandro Sotil Yerén (18 May 1949 – 30 December 2024) was a Peruvian professional football player.[1][2] He was nicknamed El Cholo. He played as a striker or midfielder. He was one of Peru's most well known football players of the 1970s.[3] He played for the Peru national football team from 1970 to 1978. He also played for FC Barcelona from 1973 to 1977.
On 20 December 2024, Sotil was hospitalized in Lima, Peru under critical condition after having septic shock due to multiple organ failure.[4] He died ten days later on 30 December 2024 from kidney and liver failure at the age of 75.[5][6][7]
