Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (Zelda Musou: Apocalyptic Record of The Calamity in Japan) is a hack and slash video game. It was published by Nintendo with Koei Tecmo doing the publishing in Japan. The game was developed by Omega Force.[1]

It was released on November 20, 2020 for the Nintendo Switch.[2]

The game is a prequel and is set 100 years before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The player controls either Link or Zelda and builds a team to destroy enemies and attempt to stop Calamity Ganon from being revived and destroying Hyrule. Gameplay blends a mixture of hack and slash elements from the Dynasty Warriors series.[3][4]

It is the second game released in the series after the 2016 video game Hyrule Warriors.

Reception[change | change source]

The game recieved good reviews by game critics. Critics said that they like the gameplay, the different way that the characters fought, and story. However, some critics said that they didn't like the camera, setting of the story, the use of time travel, and some frame rate issues.[5][6][7][8][9]

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity sold very well. Only after four days of release, it had become the best-selling Warriors game of all time. Out-selling all of the Dynasty Warriors games and others in the series.[10]

At the end of 2020, the game had sold over 3.5 million copies and is one of the best selling video games released for the Switch.[11][12]
