Jamia Mosque (Hong Kong)

The Jamia Mosque or Shelley Street Mosque (Chinese: 些利街清真寺) is a mosque in Hong Kong, People's Republic of China. It is the first and oldest mosque in Hong Kong.[1]
History
[change | change source]The original building of the mosque was built in 1890 during the British Hong Kong government as the Mohammedan Mosque on a piece of land rented by the government in 1850. In 1915, the building of the mosque was expanded and it was renamed to Jamia Mosque after World War II.
Architecture
[change | change source]The mosque building is included into the Grade I Building in which it is considered as a historical building which needs to be protected and conserved.
