Jan Wilhelm Mijnsbergen (18 January 1939 – 19 January 2025) was a Dutch politician. He was a member of the Labour Party. He served as a member of the Senate from 1981 to 1983 and from 1990 and 1991.
Biography
[change | change source]Mijnsbergen was born on 18 January 1939 in Vlissingen. He became a member of the Labour Party in 1963. From 1974 he was for four years the alderman of Nijmegen for housing and urban renewal. From January 1979 to November 1980 he was advisor of housiing and urban renetal of the Urban Development Advisory Bureau "Stad en Landschap" in Middelburg and of architectural firm "Rothuizen en 't Hooft" in Goes. His first term as member of the Senate was from 10 June 1981 to 13 September 1983 and a second term from 6 March 1990 to 11 June 1991. He was mainly concerned with transport, water management and spatial planning. In 1982, he was one of the seven members of his party who voted against the amendment of the constitutional provision on the election of the First Chamber and in 1983 he was one of the four members of his party who voted against the Defense budget due to nuclear weaponing. Next of being a senator he was also a member of the Provincial Council of Zeeland from 1987 to 1991.[1][2]
Mijnsbergen was also chairman of the Rent Commission Zeeland; Rent Commission West Brabant and of a Rent Commission in South-Holland from November 1981 to February 2000.[1]
Mijnsbergen was married. His wife was a teacher.[1] He died on 19 January 2025, at the age of 86 years old.[3][4][5]
