John Patrick Shanley

John Patrick Shanley (born October 13, 1950) is an American writer and movie director. He is a playwright and screenwriter. He won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Moonstruck (1987). In 2005, he won a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for his play Doubt: A Parable. He wrote and directed Doubt (2008), the movie based on his play.
His other movies include Five Corners (1987), The January Man (1989), Joe Versus the Volcano (1990), Alive, We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story (both 1993) and Congo (1995).
Shanley was born in the Bronx, New York City. He is of Irish background. He is married to Jayne Haynes. They have two adopted sons.[1]
