Karuizawa (軽井沢町, Karuizawa-machi) is a Japanese town in the Kitasaku District of Nagano Prefecture.[1]

Karuizawa is on the southern slope of Mount Asama.[1]

In the Edo period, it was a waystation on the Kisokaido road.

In the early Meiji period, the area was developed as a health resort.[1]

It is a popular tourist spot for people from Tokyo who travel to Karuizawa to get away from the summer heat.
