On the 13th of April 1945, Zwolle was liberated by one Canadian soldier called Leo Major.
History
[change | change source]Before the liberation
[change | change source]Léo Major would land at the beaches of Normandy, he even single handedly captured an armored vehicle and found some secret German codes.
He would later find a SS unit and killed four men but one of them threw a phosphorus grenade at him and tore up his left eye.
Later he would be on a scouting mission and discovered about 100 German men at a camp so major walks throw the canal and wakes up the German officer to tell his men to surrender, as they were walking another camp sees him and opened fire until an allied tank showed up.
Liberating Zwolle
[change | change source]Léo and his friend Welly were on a mission to Zwolle to liberate the town, Welly would take the north and Léo would take the west, but Welly dies, but Léo would get his revenge, Léo would shoot machine guns and throw Grenades to make the Germans think an entire allied army was attacking, four hours later the Germans retreats and Léo contacts the Dutch resistance, Zwolle was liberated.
After
[change | change source]Léo would fight in the Korean War and after he would retire from army service and die in 2008 at the age of 87.
