Missouri Tigers

The Missouri Tigers university sports programs represent the University of Missouri in Columbia. The name came from a band of armed Union Home Guards. These were called the "Fighting Tigers of Columbia". In 1864 they protected Columbia from Confederate guerrillas during the American Civil War.[1]

The University of Missouri are often called "Mizzou". It is part of the University of Missouri System.[2]
