Populated places in Ukraine

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Populated places (Ukrainian: Населений пункт, romanizedNaselenyi punkt) in Ukraine refers to a structured component of a human settlement system.[1] Its most notable feature is the continued presence of human inhabitants. Ukraine's population settlements are divided into two types: urban and rural.[2] Urban settlements are cities, and rural settlements include villages and rural settlements. According to data from the 2001 Ukrainian census, there are 1,344 urban-type settlements and 28,621 rural-type settlements in Ukraine.

All populated settlements are governed by municipalities, which are divided into city, town and rural municipalities. A municipality may consist of one or more settlements and is part of a district (except for Kyiv and Sevastopol). A district, on the other hand, is part of a canton[dubious ].

In addition to the regular population settlements used for administrative purposes and census purposes, Ukraine has a number of other types of population settlements used for other purposes, such as mountain settlements, historical settlements and etc.
