Ricardo Leyva Muñoz Ramirez, known as Richard Ramirez or The Night Stalker (February 29, 1960 – June 7, 2013) was an American serial killer, and burglar who died while awaiting execution on California's death row.[1][2] He killed 13 people, tried to kill 5 people,and burglarized 14 buildings. It is thought that there are most likely more kills undiscovered. He was captured on August 31, 1985, after a photo of him was released to the press. He was standing by a corner store when he was spotted by multiple locals, chased and beat until police arrived at the scene.

Ramirez was born on February 29, 1960 in El Paso, Texas. He was raised in Los Angeles, California. He had a harsh upbringing, experiencing multiple tragedies, among other things.

Personal life

In 1996, Ramirez married Doreen Lioy when he was in prison.

Ramirez died of lymphoma at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, California on the morning of June 7, 2013.[3][4] He was 53 years old. At the time of his death, Ramirez had been on death row for more than 23 years, awaiting execution by the state of California.
