Rohilakhand

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rohilkhand is a region in northwest Uttar Pradesh, India. It includes areas around Bareilly, Moradabad, Badaun, and Rampur. This region is part of the Ganges Plain. The name "Rohilkhand" comes from the Rohilla people who lived there. In ancient times, this area was known as Madhyadesh and Panchala, as mentioned in the old Indian stories of Mahabharata and Ramayana. During the British colonial period, the region was ruled by the royal family of Rampur.[1]
