About the play

[change | change source]

The play was written in 1923. This was three years after Joan of Arc became a saint in the Catholic Church. Shaw showed Joan as smart, kind, and real.[1] He said that the play has no villains, and is about what people do when they are trying their best.[2]

The play has six parts and an ending (called an epilogue) that show different parts of Joan of Arc's life.[3]
