Scaphocephaly

Scaphocephaly is a medical disorder which can occur when two parts of the skull fuse together. It describes a long narrow head that looks like an overturned boat. It is a type of cephalic disorder.

Scaphocephaly is the most common type of skull synostosis, or joining of two bones. It accounts for around 50% of cases of skull synostosis. It can be corrected by surgery if the child is young enough.

Scaphocephaly can be categorised into multiple types depending on position or suture closure, such as bathrocephaly, clinocephaly, dolichocephaly, leptocephaly, and sphenocephaly.
