WLWSA21

[change source]

@Darkfrog24, @ImprovedWikiImprovement: Is this a suitable topic for WLWSA21? I took it from Rejected princesses, but it was written originally. Ely - Talk 04:46, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say yes on topic. Halfway between feminists and female legendary creatures. Darkfrog24 (talk) 11:44, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I checked all the sources. I see Rob Ossian's been interviewed by the History Channel, so he barely meets WP:SPS criteria for being an expert self-published source. But what about this Cindy Vallar. Is she an expert or just someone who likes pirates a lot? Darkfrog24 (talk) 11:59, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Darkfrog24: Ossian has been on the NZ radio as well it seems, and is the website is featured on CNN Ely - Talk 12:47, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I will add, though, the English is much simpler than in all the other contest entries. I think that is the kicker: writing it originally rather than copying from a complex Wiki. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:23, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll check Cindy in a minute. Ely - Talk 12:43, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to be a part of https://www.ringsurf.com/ring/pirate/. Ely - Talk 12:45, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Does that prove she's an expert? en:WP:SPS says "Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established subject-matter expert, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable, independent publications." That means we have to prove somewhere else that Cindy Vallar is an expert. Otherwise she's just a fan. She might be right or she might be wrong. For example, the History Channel interviewed Rob Ossian as an expert for their program on pirates. Does Vallar have a degree in history? Has she written a traditionally published book about pirates? Did she present at a big history conference? There are lots of ways to prove she's an expert. Or we could just take out all of the content for which she is the only source. to be fair, I just didn't have a the time to read the actual book from mclibrary. All info from Cindy has other sources. Ely - Talk 13:01, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
