Talk:List of scientists from South America
"Red-link scientists"
[change source]Here is a List of "red-link scientists".
Feel free to click on the red link, to start an article (or stub of an article).
Some say that there should not be too many "red-link scientists" in an article.

Temporary need for this list
[change source]There (arguably) is a need for this list.
- Anyone can make the "category:Scientists from Argentina". (It has not been made yet. This list cuts down the time needed to make that category.) 89.8.71.181 (talk) 08:32, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
Category (and before the article maybe gets deleted)
[change source]- Scientists from Colombia. Anyone might want to create that category (because now one "has 3 scientists in one place" [my words]). 89.8.95.63 (talk) 09:24, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
Move to "national list"
[change source]- Chile. These should maybe be moved from this list: *Luisa E. Navas; Nicanor Parra, he had the Miguel de Cervantes Prize; poet, physicist. List of Chilean scientists. 89.8.87.64 (talk) 05:56, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Basis for the list
[change source]The most important thing for a list is a to be well defined. For this list, that means "what are the basic standards needed to be on the list?" On that note, I suggest the following guidelines:
- All countries should be represented if possible
- Each country gets up to 5 representatives. The full 5 would be ideal, but with some countries, we will have problems filling that number.
- The entries should be well known for their work in a field of science. Being better known for something else is acceptable as long as they are also well known as a scientist, not just well known and happens to be involved in science in some capacity.
- When possible, a variety of fields should be represented. The list is already too heavy in terms of economists.
- Variety should be considered for other aspects of the entries such as sex, race, orientation and era but not more-so than pure notability.
- Red links are fine to pad out the list but not at the exclusion of articles we have unless the red-link is highly notable (they should already have a page but it could happen..)
These types of lists face many difficulties. Having a firm base to work on, a well defined scope and guidelines for inclusion help a lot. --Creol(talk) 06:18, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think user:Creol's rules are simple enough.--In regard to "red-link scientist": I suggest that we only have that when the country has no "blue-link scientist".--The title of the article says "scientists"; The title does not indicate that people who are more famous as politicians, should be excluded; I am fine with those politicians/scientists not being excluded from this list. 89.8.87.64 (talk) 07:11, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Simple enough?
[change source]I have now [1] moved the Argentine scientists to "List of scientists from Argentina". Simple enough? 89.8.87.64 (talk) 06:50, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
