Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems,[2] is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. She was born on June 11, 1995, in Lagos, Nigeria. Raised primarily by her Nigerian mother after her British-Nigerian father left the family, Tems attended Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos, before pursuing a degree in Economics at a university in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Tems began her music career in 2018 with the release of her self-produced debut single, "Mr. Rebel." She gained further attention in 2019 with her single "Try Me." Her international recognition increased after being featured on Wizkid's song "Essence,"[3] which earned her several award nominations, including a Grammy.[4] Tems[5] has also collaborated with artists such as Drake on "Fountains" and Future on "Wait For U," the latter debuting at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
Tems has received various accolades throughout her career, including multiple NAACP Image Awards, a Soul Train Music Award, and BET Awards. She is recognized as a significant figure in both the Nigerian and international music industries.
