Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (French: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune) is a work for orchestra by Claude Debussy. It was inspired by a poem by Stéphane Mallarme. It was first performed on 22 December 1894 in Paris. The music was used for a ballet in 1912 designed by Vaslav Nijinsky.
