The Day After Tomorrow is a 2004 American/Canadian science fiction disaster movie. It was produced and directed by Roland Emmerich. It was distributed by 20th Century Fox. It was released in Mexico City on May 17, 2004, and worldwide from May 26 to May 28.
The movie follows a series of severe weather events that take place around the world as a result of global warming. Among these events:
- Japan is hit by a large hail storm.
- Los Angeles is hit by tornadoes.
- New Delhi is hit by a blizzard.
- New York is hit by a very strong thunderstorm that causes a large storm surge. Later, the storm turns into a blizzard. The storm has a hurricane-like eye with cold air that instantly freezes anything it comes in contact with.
These events cause global cooling, which eventually starts a new ice age.
The movie made $186,740,799 in North America and Canada, and $542,771,772 worldwide. It was inspired by the book The Coming Global Superstorm, co-authored by Art Bell and Whitley Strieber.
