Tostig Godwinson
Appearance
Tostig Godwinson lived in England in the 11th century and was was the younger brother of King Harold II. He was the third son of Earl Godwine of Wessex and his Danish wife, Gytha, who was the daughter of Thorkell Sprakaleg.[1]
Tostig, his father and his brothers were banished from England in 1051 by King Edward the Confessor but returned in 1052. After Earl Siward died three years later, Tostig was appointed Earl of Northumbria, Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire.
Tostig rebelled against Harold and fought alongside Viking forces at the Battle of Stamford Bridge[2] but he died in battle.
