Glossary of Shinto

Yagi Shrine [ja; simple; en] (夜疑神社) is the shrine of the Yagi clan [ja; fr; en:draft; simple][1] it worships Furutama-no-mikoto [ja; fr; simple; en].[2][1]

It has a Chinju no Mori around it.[3]

It is located at Kishiwada, Osaka.[4] It is accessible from Tadaoka Station [en] on the Nankai Main Line [en].[5][6]

There is a children's library on the shrine grounds.[7]

The year this shrine was founded is unknown, but it is also mentioned in the Engishiki, which was created during the Heian period[8]. In the Shinsen Shōjiroku [en] compiled in the early Heian period, there is a description indicates that the Yagi clan, an ancient powerful clan, enshrined their ancestral deity, Furutama-no-mikoto [ja; fr; simple; en]. [9] . Several shrines were merged with it during the Meiji period [2][9] . It was promoted to Go-sha in 1943. [10]

It was rennovated in 2013 for the first time in 350 years.[6]

Enshrined deities

[change | change source]

The shrine has many kami enshrined in it.[2]

The main deity is Furutama-no-mikoto [ja; fr; simple; en] the God of exorcism and traffic safety.[2]

During the Shrine Consolidation Policy many shrines were merged into this one, so it worships a very large amount of deities.[2]
