Gujranwala

[change source]

I wonder if you have an opinion about Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2012/Sikh Villages In Gujranwala. What lessons, if any, should we draw from this?

June 2012

[change source]

Hello! I'm assuming you've popped over from the English Wikipedia, so you're probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay on! Here's a few links to help you adjust:

There's plenty to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that don't exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you'd like to do. Thanks for joining us, and you know how to contact me if you need a hand. weltforce (talk) 23:52, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Debastein! It's great to see a new editor getting into this! Very cool. Manual of Style is pretty much the same as on the English Wikipedia, except that our local page does just a few tiny things differently (not even worth mentioning, you'll pick it up). Same goes for policies, pretty much all the same policies apply.

What else? You can "translate" articles from other Wikipedias, but you need to give attribution to make it GNU-compliant. Have a look at Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Transwiki attribution for steps in that.

There are a few tools to help you write in simple English here. If you want to check whether a word is considered "simple", it'll be listed on Wikipedia:Basic English combined wordlist. We also have the Simple English Wiktionary if that helps.

Being from another wiki, you should get the hang of it pretty easily I think. If you have any other questions, let me know. Good luck and have fun! Osiris (talk) 01:51, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An addition to our warm community welcome

Belinda has given you some beautiful, lovely roses! Enjoy the scent!

Hi! I saw your simple talk message and decided to drop by too. I can't be absent at the place of warmth! :) I really hope I get to see you around more often here; we would really appreciate an extra hand! You can visit me if you have any questions (though I doubt you will, since you already seem to be doing a great job). With wikilove, Bella tête-à-tête 05:36, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Getting started

[change source]

Hi Debastein! Thank you for showing interest in this new pilot for the Indian Education Program! I expect that your willingness to support the initiative is a great boost of confidence to its coordinators. What I'd like to do now is to try to match that confidence within the community by getting you and the other volunteers started in actively editing here. Because each version of Wikipedia works differently, our local editors understandably would like to see you familiarised with the project before taking on a team of students. Once we begin working together and start seeing you build up the necessary experience, I think everyone will have a lot more confident in the plan.

If you haven't already visited them, the links in your welcome message show the very basics of how to get started here. You will probably find writing in simple English difficult at first (I certainly did), but with practice you will get good at it. I keep a list of things here that can help in simplifying. There are lots of topics about India that don't have articles on this wiki yet, so there is plenty to do! I've started to draw up a list of some of these here. It's not finished yet, and if you see something that should be there, please feel free to add it! Also, every week or so, a new set of "most wanted" articles that this wiki doesn't yet have will get listed on WP:RC.

If you need any help whatsoever along the way, just leave me a message on my talk page and I'll reply as soon as I can with the answer. Once you start editing, you will find that most if not all other editors will be willing to give you a few tips if you need them. Good luck and have fun! Watchlist

[change source]

I wonder if you might want to add List of Indian football teams to your watchlist?

Is it possible that you might be interested in East Bengal F.C. + List of East Bengal F.C. players? --Horeki (talk) 16:13, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More so about Mohan Bagan, but yeah, I promise to actively participate, its just I'm currently busy with a piece of research work and my time is totally swamped. I hope to get some time this coming week and will start editing asap. Might start with a biography though. --Debastein (talk) 05:30, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Debastein. I would first like to introduce myself. I am Arsenalkid700. My main work is with articles pertaining to Indian Football on the English wikipedia. (English Wiki Profile here). Anyway I saw the message that Horeki gave you and just thought I stop by. It seems you want to be involved in this little project we have over here, mainly with Mohun Bagan. Would love your help and from your profile on English Wiki it seems you are a vert trusted user. Look forward to working with you. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 05:59, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
