Checkuser question
[change source]Hi, there's someone who keeps making new accounts just to revert their own edits back and forth on articles here, for example, Special:Contribs/WilliamAthertonDeeBaker. These accounts usually get blocked, but they just make a new one. Would it be allowed by checkuser policy to find the IP/IP range behind the accounts and block that? TagUser (talk) 20:26, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- I was noticing that pattern this morning, and it is probably worth closer inspection. Peterdownunder (talk) 06:04, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know if that means I should report them to WP:RFCU? Should I specifically ask for the IP to be blocked? TagUser (talk) 00:53, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- As a checkuser I can see what IPs an editor is using. When a user gets blocked by a checkuser, they can also see and block other IPs that are being used. All of our checkusers here are admins, so they can also block problem IPs without needing to run inappropriate checks. If you see/suspect a problem user, you can report on the checkuser page, or on the admin noticeboard. Many problem users are not just a problem on Simple English, but also disrupt other projects too. The account you mentioned here was already globally blocked by the time I got the message. Thanks for making the reports, it all helps. Peterdownunder (talk) 03:54, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. I know that the account is blocked/locked but I am hoping the IP behind this account can be blocked too, if it's also the IP behind the many other accounts. TagUser (talk) 04:14, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- The IPs used by this editor are blocked, that's part of the process. However, users sometimes are able to access other IPs, to get around the block, report them if you think this is happening. Peterdownunder (talk) 04:20, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- I am fairly sure that such a block on the IP will only last 24 hours after the last login, per m:Autoblock and Special:AutoblockList. Also, if they use an IPv6, their IP address will typically change often, usually within a /64 range (see en:WP:/64). Thus the autoblock may not prevent them from editing from the same hotspot. If I see this user again, I will report them. TagUser (talk) 04:29, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

A question on a article deletion
[change source]You have deleted the article Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi, i was the creator of that, no one has written the rules which the page was not following. Could I know them?? Columbidae5 (talk) 15:26, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the question. All our articles need to be notable and meet our notability guidelines. For movies, read this page: Wikipedia:Notability (movies). Your article was not seen to have met those guidelines. As the movie had also not yet been released, it is even more difficult to meet the guidelines. It may well become a notable movie in the future, but at this stage, many of the sources are just pre-publicity hype. Hope that helps. Apart from the problem with notability, the article was well written. Peterdownunder (talk) 04:03, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
Could you be our school project ambassador again?
[change source]Dear Peter, I've been grateful for your support over the years that I've had my students edit Simple English Wikipedia for our class project. I'm about to start it again. Are you in a position to help with any hiccups that occur as my students learn how to be good Wikipedians? If not, do you know another SE Wikipedia editor who's active and willing? Thanks ever so much, Swim123blue (talk) Swim123blue (talk) 19:04, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Swim123blue, I should be in a position to help. Peterdownunder (talk) 23:17, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
