Vindhyachal Temple, also known as Maa Vindhyavasini Temple and Vindhyachal Dham, is a Hindu temple dedicated to the mother goddess Vindhyavasini. It is located on the bank of the Ganga River in Vindhyachal, Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, India. The temple is recognized as one of the important Shakti Pitha temples in India.[1][2]
Mythology
[change | change source]According to an old story, Goddess Durga picked Vindhyachal as her home after beating the demon Mahishasura. Many people visit the Vindhyachal temples during the Navaratri festival, and the whole city gets decorated with lights and flowers.[3]
Transport
[change | change source]To reach Vindhyachal Temple, you can use Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, which is 72 kilometers away. The nearest railway station is Vindhyachal railway station (BDL), just 1 kilometer from the temple, with connections to Delhi-Howrah and Mumbai-Howrah routes. Mirzapur railway station (MZP) is another option, about 9 kilometers away. State-run buses, taxis, and local cars are available for travel, and National Highway 2 (NH 2) connects to the area.[4][5]
Vindhya corridor
[change | change source]The government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has a plan to build something similar to the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. This project will go around the Vindhyachal Temple and is expected to cost about ₹224 crores.[6] Its goal is to make the pilgrimage experience better. They will make a 50-foot-wide path for people to walk around the temple, and they will provide good facilities for pilgrims. Skilled artisans from Jaipur, Rajasthan, will use special pink stones from Ahraura to build it.
