The Wikimedia Usability Initiative
If you are a die-hard stalker of Wikimedia, you would have seem it on their blog about new changes to the look and feel of all its projects. If you are surprised to know this, I am Hydriz, reporting to you about all these changes.
Somewhere around June 2010, the technical team of Wikimedia released a new look of Wikipedia to the English Wikipedia, the vector skin. It is one great improvement to the look of Wikipedia since the old skin of Monobook is dull. This step is initiated by a grant given by the Ford Foundation.
This grant lasted for one year, which had many more upgrades of the usability of Wikipedia and its sister projects.
Now, you will see greater improvements to Wikimedia. The new release of the UploadWizard extension will make uploading media files to Wikimedia Commons will be much easier and enjoyable. It is now live here.
Wikipedia turns 10
- This has been reported before. But this will include more stuff.
As you can see from the Wikipedia 10 website, there are many countries around the world celebrating this event of Wikipedia turning 10 years old. We should indeed take this chance to thank Wikipedia with all our heart since it has helped us in many ways.
Wikipedia should have helped you in:
- Finishing your school project
- Knowing things that your teacher didn't teach
- Giving more information to your students
- Wasting electricity
- Spending your time
Imagine how would life be without Wikipedia!(actually it is possible, if you are as smart as Jimmy Wales to create one before he does)
So, take time now to plan your country's/city's/town's/neighborhood's/house's celebration of this great event!
Simple English Wiktionary
I have noticed recently, that many people of the Simple English Wikipedia did not know that the Simple English Wiktionary even existed. If that is what you think, you are wrong! The Simple English Wiktionary had already existed for 6 years!
I understand that creating new entries for the Simple English Wiktionary is much tougher than creating pages here on the Simple English Wikipedia. But we do have many tutorials on how to create your first entry. We also have simplified the list of words that you can create. Seriously, in my opinion, creating new entries in the Simple English Wiktionary is much easier than creating articles on the Simple English Wikipedia. You just need to know the definitions of that word and it is ready to be published!
