Wikipedia talk:Wiki Loves Women South Asia/2021
Resources
[change source]I freely confess I am mining Jason Porath's Reject Princesses website for good women to write about: [1] The only to-write name I didn't get from him was Queen Mehrunisa; I read a fictional book that mentioned her a few months back and I think she could use an article here. Darkfrog24 (talk) 16:57, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
Move to Wikipedia Namespace
[change source]@Darkfrog24:, The page is being requested to move to the Wikipedia namespace to ensure participation in the contest, Thanks. Hirok Raja (talk) 11:55, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- I don't mind if that's what the Simple English Wikipedia community wants to do, but here on Simple, we host all Wikiprojects in userspace: Take a look: WP:WIKIPROJECT. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:28, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Hirok Raja: If you want to make sure people find out about the contest, the thing to do is to post on Simple Talk. If there have been updates to the contest rules or something, then make a new thread. Maybe tell everyone exactly what the jurors' jobs will be. Are they like contest judges? Darkfrog24 (talk) 15:49, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Darkfrog24: Yeah! They're like contest judges. Add your project page here and re-read the Guidelines for Organizer.Hirok Raja (talk) 15:58, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- I see. I have updated this project page. It sounds like the articles don't have to be about South Asia. Darkfrog24 (talk) 17:41, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Ferien was good enough to assist me with Fountain. I think we've got these things done. Darkfrog24 (talk) 10:15, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
* "requested by at least one other Wikiproject"
[change source]When listing articles to be created, @Darkfrog24 hasadded asterisks that mean "has been requested by atleast one other simple English wiki project". But I don't see any other such wiki project requesting the majority of the asterisked (I made that word up) articles to be created.
Definitely not Ely - Talk 04:09, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- P.s. I messed up the has added to "hasadded" Ely - Talk 04:09, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- Wikiproject Courage in Journalism. Darkfrog24 (talk) 10:13, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- Is that it? Its been inactive for 4 years and has 2 participants. Ely - Talk 10:21, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- So? There's no time limit. I also didn't want to spam the suggestion section with loads of suggested articles all from the same person. Right now, they're all from me and show only my perspective. If you would like to add more suggestions from more recent Wikiprojects, go right ahead. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:03, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

Decent source: https://www.cwluherstory.org/classic-feminist-writings/
[change source]I found this and it seemed pretty good as a source. Any suggestions? Ely - Talk 13:52, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
- I looked at it and I'm not sure it's RS for history. I'd say en:WP:ABOUTSELF applies. Definitely a good place to find things to write about, though. Definitely as relevant as Rejected Princesses. Darkfrog24 (talk) 18:46, 1 September 2021 (UTC)
Rule clarification
[change source]On Meta someone noted that the Fountain tool was not accepting expanded articles. User:Hirok Raja said the rules were unclear: No they will not take expansions of existing articles after all, only new articles created after September 1. I am notifying all current contestants of this: @AnApple47, Elytrian, Haoreima, Yahya, and Ferien: Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:27, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Bytes...
[change source]Does the byte threshold include everything or just the words? Pinging @Darkfrog24. Ely - Talk 07:47, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- I think if it did not include non-words, the main contest organizers would have said so, but if you are in doubt and the article really is that short, just add more text until you reach 300 words. Darkfrog24 (talk) 17:03, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- Whats a word? - "10" isn't (it's a number), but "ten" is. Punctuation anyone? - Whats the shortest meannigful accepted entry? - "Feminism is good." (plus 283 spaces?)--Eptalon (talk) 18:03, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- I would mark yes on any entry read as having 300 words by any reasonable wordcounter. Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:49, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Rule clarification on help
[change source]According to organizers at the main page, @ImprovedWikiImprovment: are allowed to improve entries before marking them. Does anyone not feel comfortable with this? Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:19, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Darkfrog24 Jury member(s) can only make general corrections. They can't do any large-scale editing. So I don't see any reason to be uncomfortable with it. - Hirok Raja (talk) 18:07, 18 September 2021 (UTC)
- oooooh...
- @Hirok Raja: sooooo... What about stuff like this?
- I will cease major improvements for now, waiting on your response. I can certainly just improve the articles on October 1, outside the contest. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:23, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

- Which article are you talking about, @Hirok Raja:? The biggest problem we've had here are articles that are too complex for the Simple English Wikipedia. I don't know of any contestant who messaged to say "I improved the article; look at this one again."
- I absolutely agree that if a rejected article is improved it should be re-marked. Darkfrog24 (talk) 14:15, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Darkfrog24: The problem is in Assamese Wikipedia. However, we have informed all juries so that similar incidents do not happen again. Hirok Raja (talk) 14:20, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
- Whew! Thank you for letting us know. Darkfrog24 (talk) 17:13, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Second look
[change source]@ImprovedWikiImprovment: are you available to reevaluate Fireflies (movie) and Daughters of the Polo God? The author says they have been improved. The more different people judge the articles, the more accurate the judgement will be. Darkfrog24 (talk) 15:58, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
More Fountain fussing
[change source]@Elytrian and Haoreima: We have at least two contestants, @Eptalon: and @Prajjwal3959:, whose articles do not show up in Fountain. I asked on Meta and one of the organizers mentioned a Submit button. Elytrian and Haoreima have both successfully submitted articles to the contest. Can you describe what entering your articles into Fountain looks like so Prajjwal and Eptalon can be included? Darkfrog24 (talk) 18:42, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Step 1: Logout.
- Step 2: Press "Submit"
- Step 3: Login and accept terms.
- Step 4: Enter article title.
- Step 5: If the article requirements are achieved, press add.
- Step 6: I think you're done, but I don't remember now.
- 💠Ely - Talk💠 04:00, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- For me, I logged in and press the "Submit" Button first and write the article's name in the given space. And then press the button to add the article. It's done. Before adding, you will be shown a brief description of the article, like number of bytes and words by the system software. Thanks! Haoreima (talk) 06:45, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
Question on articles
[change source]@Darkfrog24, @User:ImprovedWikiImprovment: So 2 of my articles weren't accepted and I went ahead and fixed them. Are scoring decisions final after the first time? 💠Ely - Talk💠 09:50, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- No, they're not. Jurors are allowed to change them. I've already requested instructions for how to go in and do so. Jurors have until the END of October to mark the articles. Darkfrog24 (talk) 11:05, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Deadlines
[change source]User Shakil emailed me to say there is no strict policy, but YES if the article is improved after September 30, we're allowed to change it's mark. The article does have to be submitted to Fountain by the end of September 30, though. @Haoreima: I believe you were interested in this. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:32, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- I guess that's UTC?--Eptalon (talk) 19:37, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you Darkfrog as well as Shakil Hosen for the information! And yes, I was interested in that! Haoreima (talk) 20:02, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Three more days
[change source]I am in awe of the interest and effort and excellent choice of topics I have seen in this branch of the contest. This is a reminder to all participants that the deadline to submit an article to Fountain is the end of September 30. Articles submitted on October 1 or later do not count for the contest (though Simple English will still be better for them).
@AnApple47, Elytrian, Haoreima, Yahya, Ferien, Md Minhaz Uddin Majumder, Eptalon, TI Reyal, Prajjwal3959, and Suhetha:
If you have written a Simple English article for the contest, and you do not see it in our Fountain Page, please let us know immediately so we can fix any technical problems in time. Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:32, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Date added is wrong...
[change source]Hello, Just wanted to point out that what'd probably called "Date added" on the page on Fountain of the article (here) is totally off. Might be: The first time, SEWP had an article on that topic, it was first added on that date. So, whoever reviews: Don't exclude an article because that date is reported wrong. Thanks. --Eptalon (talk) 16:39, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- Is it off by more than a day? Remember the time zone, Eptalon. Darkfrog24 (talk) 00:58, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Thank you all so much for making this event a wonderful thing and for providing readers of Simple English with a richer, wiser and more gender-balanced experience. I can't wait to look at each one! Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:56, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- Darkfrog24 which means all the articles - articles that have been already submitted on fountain + articles that have not been submitted due to login problem - should be submitted here [3]. Isn't it ?--Prajjwal3959 (talk) 16:52, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
- I checked, just to be sure. Only articles not already submitted need be put there: [4] Darkfrog24 (talk) 18:40, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Update. Fountain has been fixed. Please go here[5] to see where to submit articles. Please do so by October 3. All articles must have been created by the end of September 30. I can't wait to read them all! Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:18, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
