Ziaur Rahman (Bengali: জিয়াউর রহমান Ziaur Rôhman; 19 January 1936 – 30 May 1981) was a Bangladeshi war hero, politician and statesman. He was the President of Bangladesh from 1976 until his assassination in 1981 and founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), one of the two largest political parties in the country. His widow, Begum Khaleda Zia, has been Prime Minister of Bangladesh three times.

In the early hours of the morning of 30 May 1981, Rahman was shot and killed by a group of army officers in his Old Circuit House (currently known as Zia Memorial Museum). 7 others (including his other guards) were also killed in the attack.
