Borsodbóta

Borsodbóta is a village in Ózd District of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Its population in 2024 was 782.

Location

It lies between the slopes of the Bükk region, 45 kilometers west of Miskolc by road and 8 kilometers east of Ózd. Of the surrounding settlements, Sáta and Uppony are 4-4, Sajómercse is 7 kilometers away; the nearest town is Ózd, which is 8 kilometers away.

The area was inhabited in ancient times, as evidenced by the Bronze Age swords found in the area. It was first mentioned in written records in 1494, under the name Bolcha. Until 1954, the village was called Bóta, when it took on the name Borsodbóta.

Politics

The mayor of the settlement has been János Gulyás of the Workers' Party since 1990 (1986).[1][2][3]

In 2022, 93.8% of the population identified as Hungarian, 28.2% as Roma, 0.4% as German, 0.1% as Ukrainian, and 1.9% as other non-local nationalities (5.1% did not respond; due to dual identities, the total may exceed 100%). Regarding religion, 30% were Roman Catholic, 1.4% Reformed, 0.1% Greek Catholic, 5.3% other Christian, and 31.1% non-religious (31% did not answer).
