János Gulyás (born April 20, 1956, in Borsodbóta) is a mechanical engineer and politician.[1] Since 1990, he has been the mayor of Borsodbóta, representing the Hungarian Workers' Party.[2][3][4]

After graduating from the Faculty of the Technical University of Heavy Industry in Miskolc in 1979, János Gulyás became a certified mechanical engineer. From 1979 to 1982, he worked as a development engineer at the Mályi plant of the Northern Hungarian Brick and Tile Industry Company. Later, he joined the Design Office of the Ózd Metallurgical Plants as a design engineer.


In 1986, János Gulyás joined the Borsodbóta Council of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party.[7] After the political transition in 1990, he was elected as the freely chosen mayor of Borsodbóta, representing the Hungarian Workers' Party, led by Gyula Thürmer. Since then, he has continuously served as the mayor of Borsodbóta.[8][9][10] In 2021, János Gulyás was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Borsodbóta.[11]
