Pusztafalu

Pusztafalu is a village in Sátoraljaújhely District of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Its population in 2024 was 175.

Location

It is located in the central part of the Zemplén Mountains, right next to the Slovak border, about 95 kilometers northeast of the county seat, Miskolc, by road.

Among the surrounding settlements, Füzér 2, Füzérkomlós 6, Filkeháza are located 8 kilometers away; the nearest cities are: Pálháza (10 kilometers away) and Sátoraljaújhely (26 kilometers away).

It was mentioned in 1389 as Puztawyfalu. It was ravaged by Turkish hordes in 1565. It was populated by Reformed Hungarians. In 1920, as a result of the Trianon, most of the village was annexed to Czechoslovakia.

In 2022, 87.8% of the population identified as Hungarian, 3.2% as Ukrainian, 1.6% as Slovak, 0.5% as German, and 1.1% as other non-local nationalities (11.6% did not respond; due to dual identities, the total may exceed 100%). Regarding religion, 10.6% were Roman Catholic, 60.8% Reformed, 2.1% Greek Catholic, 0.5% other Christian, and 0.5% non-religious (24.9% did not answer).[1]
