Television categories and articles
[change source]What if we made a new category called "Cable television channels" for things like Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, CNN, etc.? Would that work? That would distinguish them from things like "channel 3" or "KTVU", etc. I'm just kicking around some thoughts. It's possible that this is a US-centric view of things; if so, please let me know. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:42, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
- The main issue is the difference between the actual broadcasters - where we point our dials on the tv - and the networks - the people (usually) responsible for putting the programming together for distribution. In movies, its much easier for people to get the concept - the big movie companies make the movies, the local theaters show them. simple and easy. In television, the networks as the big movie companies (Sony=Discovery) and the stations are the local theaters (Channel 3/ KTVU = AMC Cinemas Bershire). The main problems are that local stations also create their own programming at times and confuses the issue and the coloquial use of the term channel to mean more than what it actually is - the frequency on the television assigned to a specific broadcasting station. There is also the issue of networks with affiliates (NBC with its local broadcasters) and networks with affiliates (Discovery only broadcasts to cable/satellite distributers who rebroadcast on separate channels)
- The word channel should never be used to describe a television network (except of course when its in the name - with just helps things get more confusing.. bloody networks like Discovery and Disney Channel)
- In simplest terms
- Channel 3 = channel - frequency on the television the program is broadcast at - Local use only
- KTVU = station - the company that is broadcasting the signal on a specific channel / frequency - local use
- NBC = Network - The big company providing most of the programming to the station for broadcast.- usually national or international.
- Overall a bit of a complicated situation.. 70.184.168.201 (talk) 09:12, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Bluve
[change source]Wikipedia:Requests_for_deletion/Requests/2011/Bluve πr2 (t • c) 05:37, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
- Deleted under a different name.. all kinds of fun.. yep, g4 does apply then. My bad. Course, g11 also does and likely a couple others on the list. 70.184.168.201 (talk) 05:41, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, it's definitely advertising (so G11 applies). It's been deleted many times under Bluve (and in fact is protected from creation). πr2 (t • c) 05:43, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Damaging
[change source]We from UNI define damaging as causing very severe/major destruction. The category you nominated for deletion was created because of certain hurricanes falling into that category. Examples include Andrew, Floyd and Gilbert. The University of Northern Iowa school class at 166.216.194.71 (talk) 08:54, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Omid Soltani
[change source]Hi! On 24 December 2011 you tagged Omid Soltani for RfD under notability grounds, but you didn't create a discussion page. I just came across it while spamming the "show any page" button. ;). You may want to create one. Thanks! Orashmatash (talk) 17:54, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, I saw it on RfD. Ignore this! :p Orashmatash (talk) 23:27, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Big Airport Weekend - January 20-23
[change source]We want to invite you to participate in the Big Airport Weekend on Jan 20-23. (See: WP:Big Weekend) The purpose of this weekend is to improve SEWP's coverage of airports and airport related articles. A few tasks and guidelines:
- Add {{Infobox airport}} to all airport articles
- To improve existing articles and stubs in the Category:Airports including subcategories.
- To add new articles on airports. (Any airport with regular commercial service or where a historic event happened is notable enough for an article.)
- Airports can be civilian, military, and anywhere in the world.
- Add BAW (for Big Airport Weekend) to the edit summaries to help keep track of the changes.
- Please use the {{inuse}} template to avoid edit conflicts with other BAW participants.
Barnstars will be liberally rewarded for your airport efforts. Let me know if you have any questions. Please join us to have fun and to improve SEWP. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 19:19, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
