Wikipedia translation of the week: 2024-27[change source]

The winner this Translation of the week is

Please be bold and help translate this article!

Roller printing on fabrics is a textile printing process patented by Thomas Bell of Scotland in 1783 in an attempt to reduce the cost of the earlier copperplate printing. This method was used in Lancashire fabric mills to produce cotton dress fabrics from the 1790s, most often reproducing small monochrome patterns characterized by striped motifs and tiny dotted patterns called "machine grounds". Improvements in the technology resulted in more elaborate roller prints in bright, rich colours from the 1820s; Turkey red and chrome yellow were particularly popular.

Spelling[change source]

Both English and American spelling are permitted and, in general, neither should be changed. Macdonald-ross (talk) 16:53, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature[change source]

Hi, Cactus. Would you please remove the little cactus image from your signature? Images are not allowed in signatures, as explained in the signature policy at Wikipedia:Signatures#Images. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 12:48, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh okay :( Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 23:23, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @Auntof6: The cactus is an emoji rather than an image, meaning that most of the points in that section of the signature policy don't apply. Over at enwiki emojis have been explicitly allowed, though here we lack that clarification. It seems evident that both of us are fans of plain signatures but I'd still like to point out that emojis seem to be allowed in signatures. —76.212.74.243 (talk) 18:58, 2 July 2024 (UTC) (comment edited at 22:25, 2 July 2024 (UTC))[reply]

RfD nomination of Pink Grasshopper[change source]

An editor has requested deletion of Pink Grasshopper, a page you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the page meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Banned user templates[change source]

Please don't use the {{banned user}} template on blocked user talk pages. Thanks. Operator873 connect 03:42, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I meant blocked sorry Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 03:43, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The {{blocked user}} really should only be used on the User page... but we don't really do that here because there's no need to grave dance. Note the important phrasing on the template page itself: it should typically only be placed by the blocking administrator. If the blocker doesn't think it's needed, the odds are it isn't.
