Praetor
Hello, to answer your question: a new user had created a stub on Praetor and then Praetors in quick succession. Someone who was unfamiliar with the term tagged both articles for QD as nonsense, but I recognized it as a term from the Roman Empire. I put the {{wait}} request on the Praetor talk page. An administrator also recognized the term but for some reason deleted Praetor and moved Praetors to Praetor. Thank you for signing my message. LovesMacs (talk) 22:18, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Just finishing it now. It's quite hard to say somethings contained in the criteria in simpler English. Trying to simplify words like criterion, convey, judicious, entanglement, and some of the concepts that are easy if you understand the complex words used, but difficult if you need to use words that only have one meaning and simple and unambiguous! I have a draft proposal also. I'll post that in about two hours. The non-free criteria will be up in about half and hour. Cheers fr33kman talk 21:45, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a seWP version of the enWP's Typo Team? --The New Mikemoral (talk) 02:35, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Ah, no sorry! I'll let you in on the "secret"; we only have about 45 (yes, you read correctly, forty-five) regular editors (including admins), not the 9.5 million that enWP has. Your edits here make a BIG difference to the site. Still for such a small wiki team, over the years they have managed to create over 56,000 articles (and fight the vandals we get). We tend to just go around and fix what needs to be fixed as we are moving about the site. Recently, we have had more new editors come over from other wikis. I think this is partly due to our new tough stance on vandals and editors who are banned elsewhere and move here because they only edit in English. You'll find almost everyone edits mainspace here, admins, editors everyone. Some folks, like Majorly are busy elsewhere also and that's cool. You basically have entered a local villiage where you will make a big impact. Personally I love it here! Feel free to jump right in to any discussions, don't worry about being the newbie, just dig in! A lot of people get involved in everything; editing, discussions, categories, templates, WP:AFD, vandal fighting, etc., but we also deeply respect people who just want a quiet place to build new articles. It's a very interesting wiki to work on. I like enWP too, and if you check me out you'll find I do lots there too, but over there you need to pick a niche or it's too overwhelming. My niche there is to do deletion sorting, dispute resolution and wikignoming. Here it is to do the lot (plus mopping up) :) fr33kman talk 02:47, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Think I can start some sort of Typo Team? --The New Mikemoral (talk) 02:50, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Perhaps the best way for you to learn a little about the community here is to propose it at WP:ST. :) I'll give you a heads up now though; it probably won't go anywhere. The answer will be "we don't have enough editors, we are already busy". This answer is real, it will have very little to do with the merits of the proposal (any proposal). We recently started an MFD (misc for deletion) page, it lasted two weeks and is now being closed. That's something that is official everywhere else. Things are chaning quite quickly, however. Over the last month or so, quite a few new editors have come over from enWP. Like I said I think this is people looking for a place they can make a difference, and because we are stopping the previous disruption that was occuring at the project. Sorry if the answer seems negative; it's not a negative place to edit. Remember that enWP has 9.5 million registered usernames; we have 45 regular editors. fr33kman talk 03:07, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting unreferenced additions
Hi fr33kman. I'm brand new at seWP. On the Wednesday article, I noticed you removed my addition due to lack of citation. Is it the policy at seWP to delete unreferenced claims, rather than using {{fact}}? Thanks! Galen (talk) 03:03, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes and no. I removed your edit because of the word "may" and because it was unsourced. If you were not such a new user, it might have been left; but as a new username it might also have been someone messing about and just adding stuff for the heck of it. We tend to get a lot of people adding unsourced material here and if we see it in Special:RecentChanges as it happens it very well might get reverted, if we find it days or weeks after the fact, it may get a {{fact}} tag. You need to understand something to understand seWP; we have only about 45 regular editors, and we get a lot of vandalism for a small wiki (because we are an English wiki). Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia and here's hoping you stick around! :) btw: are you a doctor or med student? Your username suggests it :) fr33kman talk 03:14, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you for explaining. I'm not a med student. Galen's my real name. I too hope to stick around. I teach English to ESL students. I intend to improve articles they'll reference during a given week. Beyond that I plan to transwiki articles from enWP. Galen (talk) 03:20, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I've never known anyone called Galen. You are probably aware of the great doctor Galen (I'm a doctor); hence why I thought you might be. Please do stick around, we need good people here. I have a lot of respect for language teachers and have taught ESL in my summers when at med-school. I have a link for transwiking from enWP to here; it is here. I wrote it because many people are starting to import articles. See you around! :) fr33kman talk 03:24, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that catch! I am usually very good when it comes to quick deletion and the rules about them, but you've taught me something new. Thanks for that! I've now proposed said article for regular deletion. Thanks again, Razorflame 19:09, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- No problems. I think we could also use PROD deletions here. It'd free up peoples time dealing with AFDs fr33kman talk 19:12, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Nah, I don't think we are big enough for PRODs yet. Cheers, Razorflame 19:14, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't know if it would be a big impact really; it'd basically just be another method of QD in that it'd leave the decision up to one admin, leaving the rest to get on with their busy wiki-lives. Basically the difference between trial by judge and trial by jury :) Still, maybe you're right fr33kman talk 19:21, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback
Rollback looks like it would be very helpful :) I'm enjoying it here, reverting the vandalism is satisfying and my edits seem to be going well. Any advice on what else I can do to help around here?

- Cheers for the link. I think I covered all those rules okay, is there somewhere I need to request the page to be looked over before it can be taken off the cleanup list? FrancesO (talk) 18:10, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- No, just checking Done is enough. It'll eventually be archived by some kind soul. I'd disagree that it has been cleaned up enough however. I'll edit it and give you a starting point as an example of what I mean fr33kman talk 18:35, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Images
The proposals look good to me pretty much....but maybe we should wait for Goblin to chime in with his thoughts. Just one thing 30 editors? I don't think we have that many active users here.-- † CM16 t c 21:58, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Moving numbers
Want to help me with the moving of the numbers from the word to the conventions that en:WP uses (6 (number) for example)? You can move them and I'll go through and clean up any links in the article that point to the redirect? Cheers, Razorflame 03:05, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Sure, if you give me an example of what you want as I don't quite get what's needed. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it :) fr33kman talk 03:08, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- First, delete 1 (number), 10 (number), and 2 (number). Then, move One, Ten, and Two to the three redirects you just deleted. Leave behind a redirect on the word for the number. Do that for all of the numbers. Cheers, Razorflame 03:14, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Only delete the <number> (number) pages if they are redirects to the word. Cheers, Razorflame 03:15, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
