In light of his passing, there has been some unproductive edits being made by unregistered users on Jimmy Carter's article. Year-end RfD closures...

Hello, We currently have quite a few open RfDs. As I don't know how well the system handles closing RfDs that started last year, we should try closing as many of them as possible before the year ends. Eptalon (talk) 10:22, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is ok to close RfDs that started last year. Admins can resolve any issues with closures by simply entering a custom delete reason by creating their own link to the RfD they've closed to delete the article in the edit summary, which has become increasingly done recently with grouped RfDs and so on. If we're feeling ultra lazy... we could create a new deletion reason prefilling a variable of "current year-1" for these half a dozen of RfDs that will be overdue by 1 January? :P --Ferien (talk) 00:05, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lee Vilenski I had no idea an RM was done but either way I'm not seeing where the problem is ? .... Enwiki has the article as "Seven & I Holdings" so it's common sense just to follow suit?.... If Enwiki changes it to the lowercase i then sure we should follow suit with that too,

(Non-administrator observation) We don't have to match exactly, I do think we should have a discussion, and not just blindly follow what other wikis do. From looking at the last RM, observers suggested that around half of sources used an uppercase I, and others just "i".

There was no consensus to move in that case. From looking at a few sources, it seems to me that the uppercase I is more of an anglaphone interpretation than anything else. I'd personally suggest that we go with whatever the company calls themselves in these cases. That's obviously difficult because it's a Japanese brand. There logo is clearly that of a lowercase "i", and the company website in English suggests it is too.

No we don't but it makes just to follow them, Seems daft to have the enwiki article at one name and Simple at another. A few thoughts here..

In general, I think it's a good idea to follow enWP. (WP:FOLLOW)
Our MOS does not provide guidance on this subject.
The enWP guideline MOS:TMRULES says Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization practices, even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting "official".
Both the Seven and i and Seven and I articles should point to the same place.
As stated in the enWP RM, there is not a consistent use of "and i" or "and I" in sources (this appears to be still true).
This is more appropriate for a ST/talk page discussion rather than AN.

With all that being said, I believe that per points 1 and 2, we should move the article to match enWP unless the community believes that we should update our own MOS to use the local language's formatting, something I would not be against. Griff (talk) 16:06, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article Chandragupta II's conquest of the Vahlika Hunas is being repeatedly disrupted by random IPs [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], likely the same user. The edit pattern is very similar—they repeatedly change "Vahlika" to "Bactria/Bactrian" and add unsourced information in the infobox, such as replacing "Persians" with "Sassanid Empire." I noticed that QuantumFoam66 had removed a lot of pages from Category:Elephants, put some of them in Category:Elephants and humans, then now removed them from that category. If it is vandalism, the normal warning process should be followed, with a report to VIP if necessary. A bug admins should be aware of

I am using the Wikipedia app for iOS and something really weird happened. A few minutes ago, someone started Smith's Friends with just Im a dinosaur. I was going to QD it, but when I clicked on the article I read Les personnes qui vont vivre éternellement instead. I look at "View edit history" and I read Updated 1416 days ago, then I click on "Page issues" and I read that a user asked for QD on 21 February 2021. Btw I ended up not tagging it for QD, because I literally see a different version of the page. I should probably report the issue somewhere on MediaWiki I guess, but I wanted to let you know that sometimes deleted pages can "come back" via bugs, so that you are prepared to take some extra steps such as revdel before deleting – for example – a page for copyright violations until said bug is fixed. Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie disruption

An IPv6 editor has been disrupting Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie for a while, changing a couple of voice actor names. Their changes were accurate for a previous movie, but not this one and it's been going on for a while. Looking at Special:Contributions/2601:152:5081:CB20:E542:4FED:F26A:7A81/64, they've vandalized other articles in the past, so I'm asking for a range block on the /64 to stop this. Thanks. WP:SALT not working?

It looks like what happened here was that an autoconfirmed user created the article again at 20:40, 11 January 2025 (about 7 hours after the first protection). Closing discussions

Hi admins, when you close discussions around WP:DRV and WP:PGA, you can simply mark the section as resolved using {{section resolved|-~~~~}}. There is usually no need to box the discussion, which makes the process easier and simple. Same goes for request for rollback, and patroller. RFCUs is already being handled like that. I haven't included PVGA since the request there is quite rare but it can added to the page if we get more frequent requests. Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Archive22 appears in Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded. That means there are too many templates on the page, so it can't display all of them. Not urgent in the slightest

I was looking at Simple Talk archives and noticed that some have broken formatting which makes subsequent sections hidden on mobile. On archives 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17, this is because Phaedriel's signature has five opening html font tags, but only four closing tags. (This also makes the rest of the text green.) In each instance of the signature, another closing font tag should be added, directly after the "L". I would do it myself but the archives are protected. Hostility and legal threats on Joanna Mode RFD

Some recent comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2025/Joanna Modes are crossing a couple of lines. Hall Gelashvili (talk · contribs) said in part We have received information that editors who have requested the removal of this article were writing from Poland using the same IP address from Kielce and have been reported to the police as well as to the Wikipedia Noticeboard for deliberately removing 30 sources.[28] There's an RCU open for the multiple new accounts who appear to comment keeping the article, including this user. My findings:

Several users/IPs who want the article kept have not edited here except on this RFD.
Several users/IPs have made multiple "keep" !votes.

I have made notes in the RFD where I found the above, and struck out duplicate info.

Since there is a claim that the users who want the article deleted are using the same IP address, maybe we should do a checkuser on those users, just for due diligence. We could also do that on the users who want the article kept, just to be fair.

I'm not sure what to say about the alleged police report, or the report to the "Wikipedia Noticeboard", whatever that is. I know that we can indef users who make legal threats, but this is a statement of action that has allegedly already been taken, not a threat of future action. Some tasks related to abuse filters that stop blanking to articles

Filter 48 should be limited to the article namespace, be renamed to New editor blanking articles, and should be set to disallow since blanking articles are considered bad changes, and private filter 6 should be disabled because they both stop article blanking, but filter 6 does not have some certain exceptions. I asked User:Davey2010 why he/she used the word Weirdo multiple times against me on Simpletalk on his/her talk page[31]. Calling me a "Weirdo" multiple times on a platform like Wikipedia publicly is indeed hate speech and nobody has any rights (it goes against human rights) to call another Wikimedian fellow weirdo multiple times whatever they have done or emailed which i have already clarified above and previously too. It was clearly an insult or bullying to me as a new user which is also an public Hate Speech. Wikipedia always teaches us to assume good faith and not to spread hatred. Qylt, while Davey could have perhaps used better language, he has since stopped and has indicated through his reversions a desire to stop communicating with you, which resolves your primary issue.

That being said, you have consistently been casting aspersions on several editors on multiple pages on this project. I recommend focusing not on the actions of other editors, but on improving our articles and working collaboratively with the editing community to improve the project. Mihira Bhoja

Once again, the Mihira Bhoja page has been targeted by IP users pushing caste-biased POVs. This has led to repeated vandalism, as seen in these revisions: [33] [34] [35] [36] [37] [38] [39] [40] [41]

It doesn’t stop there. These IPs have also resorted to abusive language, including cursing and wishing "bad luck" on editors. You can find evidence of this behavior in the page history (at 19:43, 24 January 2025).

Vandalism report (2025 January 29)

Looking at Special:Contribs/2600:8805:D600:51C0::/64, it appears that nearly all of their edits are minor vandalism. However, because the IP's keep changing, it's difficult to see if they've been given enough warnings. Christian Joy Bautista vandal is back

The Christian Joy Bautista vandal is back, creating Christian Joy bautista (see [47] for a small taste of this if you don't remember) and adding her name to Santol, La Union and other articles. Accounts thus far are MIRUS Apasen Lalong (talk · contribs) and Template:IPUser but their previous pattern was creating lots of accounts after getting blocked and a variety of IP's. New accounts created and pushing garbage. The article James William Camba Escanilla was created with grand sounding claims to notability - being the Governor of the La Unioin province of the Phillipines. Except he's not. The w:Governor_of_La_Union is actually Raphaelle Ortega-David. Before I started cropping the article, one of the sources was about her, not James. The other source is pure junk. From the article log, you'll see it's been created multiple times by Baustista socks. The two new ones, Mayrose Apasen Lalong and Issichar Rosete Dela Rosa need to be blocked and globally locked, as the previous Bautista socks have been as they will hit en wiki. Thank you.
